A smart electric car is not bought quite like any other car. The brand, owned equally by Mercedes-Benz and Geely since 2019, sells its new models directly and leaves the handover to a network of Agents. To buy a smart electric car, you first need to understand this circuit, then choose between three entry points.
This guide compares those channels, maps the network in France and the Paris region, then gives budget and grant benchmarks. Figures date from 22 October 2026.
Online order, Agent or used: the channels at a glance
Each channel fits a different situation. The table below sums up what each one offers, from lead time to part exchange.

Ordering online and visiting an Agent are not opposites: in both cases, an Agent delivers the car. The choice is mainly about the support before signing.
A network of Agents instead of traditional dealers
smart has adopted an Agent sales model in Europe. On its French website, the brand states that its general terms of sale, those of smart Automobile France, apply to every order. The prices shown are therefore the manufacturer’s.
The Agent still plays a concrete role. It arranges the test drive, values the part exchange, offers lease with purchase option, delivers the car and handles servicing. The brand also refers used car buyers to its Agents.
How an online order works
The online order follows five steps described in the smart France FAQ:
- Configure the car, or choose one from available stock
- Create a smart ID account, required to order
- Choose your Agent and the preferred delivery date
- Review the order and choose the payment method
- Pay by bank transfer, or move on to the long-term lease contract to be signed online within 5 days
The transfer must be made no later than one week before delivery. An online order can be cancelled within 14 days.
What it changes for the buyer
Since new car prices are published by the brand, comparing Agents is mostly about how close the workshop is, the part exchange value offered and delivery times.
How many smart sales points in France
The smart network is compact. Its locator showed 43 Agent points in France on 22 October 2026, out of 337 in Europe across 17 countries.

The smart France FAQ mentions 47 Agent sites. A buyer in a rural area should find the nearest workshop before ordering, since that is where servicing will take place.
The 7 Agent points in the Paris region
In the Paris region, the locator lists 7 Agent points. Six are run by the Como group, a Mercedes-Benz and smart retailer in the region, which the Journal de l’Automobile described in May 2026 as “one of the largest smart retailers in France”. The seventh, Techstar, is in Vert-Saint-Denis.

Essonne and Seine-Saint-Denis have no Agent point. From Essonne, Vert-Saint-Denis, Fontenay-sous-Bois and southern Paris are the easiest addresses to reach.

What budget to plan by model
The new range has four fully electric models. The prices below are the starting prices published by smart France.

The smart #2 is still going through EU type approval: its technical figures remain provisional. This 2.746-metre two-seater takes over from the fortwo.
The smart #1, a 4.27-metre compact SUV, and the smart #3, a 4.40-metre coupé SUV, form the core of the range. The smart #5, 4.70 metres long, is aimed at families.
Fast charging matters for long-distance drivers. With the 66 kWh battery, the smart #1 and #3 charge from 10 to 80% in under 30 minutes on a 150 kW charger. The smart #5 with its 100 kWh battery reaches 590 km WLTP and recovers 10 to 80% in 18 minutes on a 400 kW charger. The smart #2 makes do with 65 kW DC, for an announced 10 to 80% in 20 minutes, which is enough for mostly urban use.
Discounts come on top. Until 31 October 2026, smart advertised 8,000 euros off the smart #5 BRABUS and 6,000 euros off its other models and trims. Cars shown in the configurator displayed estimated delivery times of 13 to 22 weeks.

Recent used cars, an answer to delivery times
A wait of several months is a burden for anyone who needs to replace a car quickly. Recent used cars fill the gap: 2025 smart #1 and #5 models are already on the road with a few thousand kilometres.
The market also includes older generations. The electric fortwo and forfour, shorter, are first and foremost city cars. On 22 October 2026, a 2017 electric forfour was listed at 10,900 euros by an Agent in the Paris region.
A demonstrator deserves attention. According to Service Public, it remains eligible for the coup de pouce bonus if bought between 3 and 12 months after its first registration, provided the other conditions are met.
Purchase grants that apply to a smart
Two schemes rely on energy savings certificates, and they cannot be combined.
The first is the CEE bonus that smart France builds into its offers. The brand quotes 310 euros for a private buyer in mainland France, 500 euros for a very low-income household and 500 euros for a business, with amounts doubled in Corsica and overseas. It is paid by bank transfer within 60 days.
The second is the coup de pouce bonus for electric passenger cars, a larger amount. Its conditions are set by regulation: “Le coût d’acquisition doit être inférieur ou égal à 47 000 € TTC” (the purchase cost must be 47,000 euros including VAT or less), Service Public notes on its page reviewed on 9 October 2026. A kerb weight under 2,400 kg and an environmental score of at least 60 points are also required.
The coup de pouce bonus cannot be combined with other energy savings certificate schemes, including social leasing. Before signing, the buyer should check whether the chosen model appears on the list of cars that reached the required score.

Checks before signing
A few questions avoid unpleasant surprises at the order form stage:
- Does the delivery date written on the order match the lead time shown in the configurator?
- Does the current discount apply to the chosen trim, and until when?
- Is the Agent chosen for delivery also the one that will service the car, close to home?
- With a long-term lease, does the annual mileage match the daily commute? It can be changed from 12 months after delivery.
- Was the grant application filed before signing, as the coup de pouce bonus requires?
A long-term lease taken out online does not allow you to buy the car at the end of the contract, according to smart France. To own the car, lease with purchase option or cash purchase remain the only routes.
