Finding a used Mercedes with a warranty is less about the model than about the sales channel. The same 2023 C-Class can be covered for 2 years with no mileage cap, for 2 years with proof required after the first year, or only against a hidden defect that the buyer will have to prove.

This guide sets the four channels that sell used Mercedes cars in France side by side, then explains the rules of each one and the paperwork to collect. The figures quoted date from 2 November 2026.

Four buying channels compared on warranty

The table below compares the channels on what matters after a breakdown: the rule that applies, how long it lasts, who carries the burden of proof and what happens on resale.

The warranties in the first two columns are commercial. They come on top of the legal guarantee of conformity, which every professional seller also owes, and never replace it.

The Mercedes-Benz network and its Certified label

The Mercedes-Benz Certified label is reserved for the authorised network. Mercedes-Benz France counts 180 labelled sales points and 220 repair sites, where the warranty applies on the same terms across the country.

The thresholds for the label

A car only joins the label if it meets the criteria published by the manufacturer. The thresholds differ for professional passenger transport.

A mechanical and cosmetic inspection by a network technician comes before every car goes on sale.

How far the cover goes

The warranty runs for 2 years from delivery, with no mileage cap. It covers the main components, mechanics included, with no deduction for wear and age, and pays for parts and labour, wear parts excepted.

Injectors and the catalytic converter are the exception, capped at 100,000 km. The level of cover is the same across the whole range.

The label comes with other network commitments: the annual service done before handover, round-the-clock Mobilo assistance, a test drive within 24 hours subject to availability, and a possible exchange within 8 days under the terms of the order form.

Stock spread across distributors

Each authorised distributor publishes its own stock. In the Paris region, for example, the Como group, a distributor of the brand, listed 506 used and demonstration Mercedes-Benz cars on 2 November 2026, spread across 13 dealerships. Of its first 24 listings, 17 mentioned the Certified warranty.

The prices of these listings give an order of magnitude. A 2022 A-Class A 180 d with 70,000 km was listed at 23,900 euros, a 2022 EQB 350 at 32,880 euros and a 2023 C-Class C 300 e at 49,900 euros. Benchmarks by version are in our files on the Mercedes GLA price and the Mercedes GLC price.

Outside the network: the guarantee the law imposes on professionals

A multi-brand garage, a trader or a platform of professional sellers sells without a manufacturer label. They remain bound by the legal guarantee of conformity, whatever the age of the car.

This guarantee covers a defect that appears within 2 years of delivery. For used goods, the presumption only lasts 12 months: during that first year, the defect is deemed to have existed at the time of sale. After that, the buyer must prove it was already there.

The seller has 30 days to repair or replace. A repair carried out under this guarantee extends it by 12 months.

The official page is clear about its scope: “The legal guarantee of conformity applies only to contracts between a non-professional buyer and a professional seller” (Service Public, page checked on 17 August 2026, our translation).

Many professionals add a commercial warranty. Its length, the parts covered and the exclusions depend on the contract: only the written terms make it possible to compare two offers.

Comparing two commercial warranties

Two contracts advertised as “12 months” can cover very different things. Six questions are enough to tell them apart.

Question to askWhat the answer reveals
Which components are covered?A closed list of parts or cover for all components
Are parts and labour paid in full?A possible wear-and-age deduction based on mileage
Is there a cap per repair or per contract?The maximum refunded after a major breakdown
Where can the car be repaired?A single imposed workshop or a national network
Does the warranty stay with the car on resale?Its value for the next buyer
Is roadside assistance included?Breakdown cover and towing

The Certified label answers these questions in writing: components covered with no wear deduction, parts and labour paid, repairs across the whole network, a transferable warranty and Mobilo assistance. It is the simplest benchmark against another seller’s offer.

Demonstration and nearly new cars: the new-car warranty carries on

Part of the Mercedes cars sold as used are demonstration or company cars, registered a few months earlier and showing a few thousand kilometres. They do not always fall under the label: first of all, they keep the remainder of the new car’s manufacturer warranty.

Como’s stock gives an example: of its first 24 listings on 2 November 2026, 3 mentioned this manufacturer warranty, on recent models.

For these cars, the date of first registration sets the start of the warranty, not the resale date. A car registered 8 months ago has therefore already used up 8 months of cover. It is still worth asking whether a manufacturer warranty extension can be taken out on the car, and on what terms.

Between private individuals: hidden defects and a warranty passed on

A sale between private individuals falls outside the legal guarantee of conformity. What remains is the hidden defects guarantee, which applies to every sale.

The French Civil Code sets out the principle in Article 1641: “The seller is bound by a warranty against hidden defects of the thing sold which make it unfit for the use for which it is intended, or which so reduce that use that the buyer would not have bought it, or would only have paid a lower price, had he known of them” (our translation).

The claim must be brought within 2 years of discovering the defect, and no later than 20 years after the sale. The buyer chooses between returning the car for a refund or keeping it with a price reduction. The burden of proof is on the buyer, usually through a quote or an out-of-court expert report.

A Mercedes sold by a private owner can still be under a Certified warranty, though. Mercedes-Benz France states that this warranty is transferable on resale to a private buyer: the remaining time stays with the car.

The delivery date appears on the warranty documents given to the first buyer. The private seller can hand them over with the service book.

The paperwork to collect before you pay

Whatever the channel, five documents let you check what is being advertised:

  1. the service book or service history, to be compared with the mileage;
  2. the roadworthiness test report, less than 6 months old for a car over 4 years old, or less than 2 months old after a follow-up test, without which the registration certificate cannot be reissued;
  3. the certificate of administrative status, which confirms there is no lien and no registration block;
  4. the HistoVec report, a French Interior Ministry service shared by the seller, with the number of owners and declared accidents;
  5. the warranty terms, with the start date, the duration and the exclusions.
