Before signing for an electric saloon costing more than 48,000 euros, getting behind the wheel is still the best way to decide. For an electric Mercedes CLA test drive in the Paris region, four options exist, but they do not serve the same purpose: some give a quick lap of the block, others a proper day on the road.
This guide presents those options, then helps choose which powertrain to test for your daily journey. Prices are those of 11 October 2026.
In brief:
- The CLA electric road test goes through an authorised dealership, by appointment.
- In the Paris region, the Como group takes online requests for 12 sites across 5 départements. Essonne, Seine-et-Marne and Yvelines have no test drive point in that network.
- To judge range, a one-day rental from Mercedes-Benz Rent tells you more than a short test: published tests measured 16.5 to 18 kWh/100 km on the motorway, around 470 to 515 km of real range against 791 km claimed.
- The Paris Motor Show, from 12 to 18 October 2026, displays the electric CLA Shooting Brake in Hall 5.2, but no Mercedes drive had been announced at its test drive centre.
Four ways to drive an electric CLA around Paris
The options are not equal. The table below sums up what each one allows.
| Option | What it allows | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Authorised dealership | Accompanied road test, advice on the specification | Appointment, online or by phone |
| Mercedes-Benz France website | Finding an authorised partner | None |
| Mercedes-Benz Rent | One or more days behind the wheel | Licence held for over 5 years, ID |
| Paris Motor Show 2026 | Comparing saloon and Shooting Brake while stationary | Entry ticket |
The dealership remains the only option combining a road test with a salesperson’s answers. Rental and the show complement it, before or after.
The authorised dealership, the route to a booked test drive
Mercedes-Benz France does not run CLA test drives directly. Its partner locator lists 242 partners in France, and one of them prepares the car, sets the slot and accompanies the driver.
How an online request works
At Como, a Mercedes-Benz distributor in the Paris region, the new CLA test drive request fits in a single form. The customer enters contact details, picks a dealership, then a day and a half-day. The dealership calls back to set the exact time.
The CLA Shooting Brake has its own form with the same list of sites. Ask for the 200, 250+ or 350 4MATIC on the phone.
Which départements are covered
Como’s 12 Mercedes-Benz dealerships open for test drives are spread as follows: 3 in Paris, 5 in Hauts-de-Seine, 1 in Seine-Saint-Denis, 2 in Val-de-Marne and 1 in Val-d’Oise, at Saint-Ouen-l’Aumône.
In Essonne, Seine-et-Marne and Yvelines, no site in this network takes test drives. Drivers there should check the manufacturer’s locator before choosing between a nearby distributor and a dealership in the inner suburbs.
Renting an electric CLA for a day: the long test
Mercedes-Benz Rent, the manufacturer’s short-term rental service, hires out the brand’s models by the day or for a few days. The company also presents it as a way to try the new models.
The conditions are specific. For a CLA, the driver must have held a licence for at least 5 years, and show ID plus the original licence when collecting the car.
The value of renting lies in the distance covered. A return trip to Normandy or Burgundy reveals motorway range, behaviour at a fast charger and comfort over a long distance.
An electric CLA is not guaranteed at every branch. It is worth checking the version offered before booking, since the mild-hybrid CLA shares the same model name.
The Paris Motor Show, a showcase more than a test bench
Mercedes-Benz returns to the Mondial de l’Auto 2026, from 12 to 18 October at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles. On its Hall 5.2 stand, the electric CLA is shown in Shooting Brake form, next to the VLE people carrier.
The show runs a test drive centre with 90 cars from 19 brands and more than 5,000 slots, booked at the stands. As of 11 October, no Mercedes drive had been announced there.
The visit is still useful for one practical reason: comparing both body styles side by side, checking rear seat access and opening the boots. The choice between saloon and Shooting Brake often comes down to these details.
Which powertrain to book for your daily journey
Asking for the right version avoids judging a CLA 350 4MATIC when the budget points to a CLA 200. The September 2026 French prices listed by L’argus are used as the basis.
| Version | Typical use | WLTP range | Saloon price | Shooting Brake price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CLA 200, 58 kWh, 224 hp | Urban trips, home charging | 541 km | 48,050 euros | 49,450 euros |
| CLA 250+, 85 kWh, 272 hp | Suburban commutes and long trips | 791 km | 54,300 euros | 55,700 euros |
| CLA 350 4MATIC, 85 kWh, 354 hp | High-mileage drivers, all-wheel drive | 769 km | 63,550 euros | 64,950 euros |
A Parisian who charges at home
With under 30 kilometres a day, the CLA 200’s 58 kWh battery is more than enough. The test drive is then about urban comfort, visibility and how the regenerative braking feels.
A suburban commuter on the A86 every day
This is the CLA 250+ profile. The test should include a stretch of fast road to read real consumption, which tests put between 16.5 and 18 kWh/100 km at motorway speed.
A family that drives on holiday
The Shooting Brake takes the lead with its 455-litre boot. For this profile, the 400-volt charging option, detailed below, matters as much as the body style.
What published road tests tell you in advance
Motoring press tests give benchmarks to compare with your own drive:
- Motorway consumption: 16.5 kWh/100 km measured by Tout sur l’auto on a CLA 250+, 17 kWh/100 km by Mobilité Club on a 250+ Shooting Brake
- Maximum range: 684 kilometres on one charge at a 74 km/h average, driving economically on main roads (Tout sur l’auto)
- Fast charging: a 302 kW peak measured at an Ionity charger, and 10 to 80% in 22 minutes
- Public charging cost: 0.63 euro per kilowatt-hour at a fast charger without a subscription
Charging at a 400 V fast charger, Tesla Superchargers included, is possible with a 700 euro option, chosen by half of customers according to Mercedes (L’argus, CLA Shooting Brake 350 4Matic road test, April 2026).
With the option, charging power peaks at 100 kW.
Questions to ask after the test drive
A good test drive is not enough to sign. These checks let you compare two dealership offers on the same basis:
- Is the 400-volt charging option included in the quoted specification?
- What delivery time will the dealership put in writing on the order form?
- Does the car you tested match the trim offered, Progressive Line or AMG Line, with a 4,750 to 5,600 euro gap depending on the powertrain?
- Which financing offer comes with the order, and over what term?
